Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Mit ergebenstem Grusse [...]".
The landscape painter Dill was inspired by Venetian scenery, especially Chioggia, and was a co-founder and president of the Munich Secession between 1894 and 1899. He moved to Dachau in 1896, where he co-founded the painters' school "Neu-Dachau" and advanced to become one of the most prominent members of the Dachau artists' colony.
Traces of a postmark. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
