Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.

A founding member of the Vienna Secession, Hänisch made his debut at the 1891 annual exhibition of the Wiener Künstlerhaus with his oil painting "Klostergarten im Herbst". He exhibited his works throughout Germany as well as in Rome, Amsterdam and at the 1900 Paris World Fair.

A few small ink spots and a small brown stain near lower right corner; traces of small folds near corners. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
