Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "War verreist - deshalb erst heute Ihrem Wunsch gemäss die Unterschrift [...]".

Working as a freelance artist from 1900, Héroux first made a name for himself with his etched nude bookplates and the use of a special graphic format called "Remarquendrucke", and proceeded to create illustrations for prominent works including the "Atlas of the Anatomy of the Horse" (1901) as well as 600 illustrations for the three-volume "Hand Atlas of Human Anatomy" (1913).

Small creases near lower corners; faint traces of a postmark; postmark on verso slightly showing through. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
