Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Für Ihre Sammlung! [...]".

Influenced by French and German Impressionism, Hübner created genre paintings, portraits and interiors, founded a private painting school in Berlin in 1901, and travelled East Asia and the United States between 1908 and 1910.

Traces of a postmark. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
