Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Ihrem Wunsche gern willfahrend ergebenst [...]".
Starting out as an architect and sculptor, Kiesel turned towards painting in the 1880s and soon became a prominent representative of the 19th century style of Salon painting, specializing in portraying young women and girls, frequently surrounded by lavish interiors.
Small ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
