Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.
One of the most popular Swiss sculptors of his day, Kissling created monuments in a heroic classical style which was increasingly considered dated towards the end of his career. His best-known works include the Wilhelm Tell Monument in Altdorf and a portrait bust of the Swiss politician Alfred Escher in Zurich.
Tiny creases near corners; some small ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
