A member of the Dachau artists' colony of landscape and genre painters from 1908, Klemm joined the Berlin Secession in 1910 and was appointed professor of graphics at the Saxe-Weimar Grand Ducal Art School in 1913, where he focused on animal painting and illustrations.

Some small ink spots on verso. Self-addressed by the collector. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
