Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.

As the artistic director of the porcelain manufacture "Royal Copenhagen" from 1884 to 1916, Krog revived the company after a period of decline, moving away from the stiff Empire style of previous decades in favour of a more impressionist style which combined underglaze painting techniques with inspirations drawn from Japanese imagery and European Naturalism. His oeuvre included furniture and silverware as well as the design of the Polar Bear Fountain for the Peace Palace in The Hague.

Lower corners slightly creased. Self-addressed by the collector. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
