Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Wem Zeit Wie Ewigkeit / Und Ewigkeit Wie Zeit / Der Ist Befreit / Von Allem Streit. (J. Böhme) [...]".

Reaching wide publicity with an 1896 exhibition of his works in Berlin, Lechter specialized in book design as well as glass painting and interior decoration. His work including designs for the books of the poet Stefan George (1868-1933), published by Georg Bondi, but also windows and paintings for ecclesiastical and secular buildings, such as the triptych "Die Weihe am mystischen Quell" in the Pallenberg hall in the Cologne Kunstgewerbemuseum.

Small creases near 2 corners. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
