A versatile painter, Leempoels created portraits, history and genre paintings, nudes, landscapes, vedute paintings and still lifes in a realistic style. He quickly established an international clientele for his highly prized society portraits of nobility and monarchs, including the Belgian kings Leopold II. and Albert I., requiring him to maintain studios in Ixelles (Brussels), Paris, New York and Buenos Aires at various times throughout his career.

Traces of a postage stamp. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
