Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.

A realist painter, Leemputten specialized in landscape painting inspired by the Campine and Brabantine regions of Belgium as well as in scenes with peasants and animals. Making his debut at the salon "La Chrysalide" in 1872, and was appointed professor of animal painting at the Higher Institute of Fine Arts of the Antwerp Academy in 1892.

Some small ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
