A representative of the Art Nouveau and Art Déco style, Marcuse's best-known works are the 1926 Carl Hagenbeck monument in Hamburg-Stellingen and his 37 sculptures of prisoners of war in German camps during the First World War. He is also remembered for his porcelain figurines.

Small creases near corners; traces of a postmark. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
