Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.

Settling as a freelance artist in Berlin in 1908, Meid specialized in etching and lithography and created illustrations for works of world literature including "Don Quijote" and Goethe's "Elective Affinities" before he turned towards painting and drawing around 1922, creating book covers for more than 44 publishing houses.

Some tiny ink spots; small creases near corners. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
