A popular glass and porcelain painter, Menzel operated a private studio in Berlin, created tableware decorated with flowers, animals, landscapes and women's faces, and was a member of the heraldic "Herold" association from 1894.
Slightly brownstained near right corners. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
