Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.

A professor at the Karlsruhe Academy from 1890 and the Düsseldorf Academy from 1895, Meyer specialized in history and genre painting, decorated the great hall in Burg castle (Solingen), and co-founded the "Düsseldorfer Künstler-Vereinigung" in 1899.

Postmark on verso slightly showing through; a few small ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
