Starting out in genre painting before turning towards portraiture, Meyn made study tours to Southern Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Austria, Italy, France and Spain. He was an esteemed portraitist of Berlin high society and was appointed professor at the Berlin Academy in 1903.

Several small ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
