Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.

Proving his talent as an assistant to his uncle at the royal brass foundry, Miller was able to study in Munich and Paris, took over the brass foundry from his uncle upon his return to Munich, and created the monumental "Bavaria" statue for King Ludwig I between 1843 and 1850.

Traces of a postmark; small ink spots and creases near left corners. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
