Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.

Studying in Paris from 1893, Mohrbutter soon discovered his fascination with fashion, fabrics, colour composition, glass, porcelain and carpets. A pioneer in designing dresses during the Victorian dress reform movement, he was also a founding member of the "Hamburgischer Künstlerklub" in 1897.

Postmark on verso slightly showing through; a few small ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
