Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Ihrem Wunsche nachkommend schreibe ich Ihnen meinen Namen, es wäre früher geschehen, aber ich war auf Reisen [...]".

Starting out as a writer of brief items for the ladies' literary salon "Kaffeter" founded by three of her aristocratic friends, the daughters of Bettina von Arnim, Olfers published poems, novellas and children's books since 1860. She was a board member of the "Verein der Berliner Künstlerinnen"; after her mother's death in 1891 she carried on her salon tradition. She was the aunt of the artist Sibylle von Olfers.

Tiny ink spots; a few faint creases near upper margin; 2 small brown stains near lower right corner. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
