One of the most prominent impressionist painters of historical and battle scenes, Rocholl participated as an artist in several armed conflicts including the Greco-Turkish War, the Boxer Rebellion, and the First World War, and was awarded several prizes for his work.
Traces of a postmark; a few small ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
