An impressionist painter, Schlichting is best known for his paintings featuring the streets of Paris, as well as for his Dutch and Flemish landscapes. He participated in the 1904 Saint Louis World Fair and was awarded a gold medal at the "Große Berliner Kunstausstellung" in 1911.

Several small ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
