Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.

As a painter, Schmuz-Baudiß was influenced by romantic historical painting as well as Impressionism and preferred Japanese themes, while as a ceramicist he worked in the Art Nouveau style and created numerous objects d'art for the Royal Porcelain Factory, including the 40-part set "Ceres" issued on the occasion of the 150-year anniversary of the factory in 1913.

Faint traces of a postmark. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
