Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Ihre Karte ist rätselhafter Weise unter erledigte Briefe gekommen. Durch einen Zufall entdeckte ich sie erst heute. Daher die verspätete Antwort [...]".

A member of the Munich Secession from 1900 and the Berlin Secession from 1904, Spiro is best known for his society portraits and landscape paintings, frequently featuring southern European scenery, as well as for intimate scenes of his own family life.

His name stamp on verso. Several small ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
