Autograph quotation signed.
Oblong 8vo (postcard). 1 page.
Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Gerne gebe Ihnen auch ohne jedes dagegen das Gewünschte [...]".
Starting out as a naturalist artist, Stassen soon turned towards Art Nouveau. He is best known for illustrating the works of Richard Wagner, particularly "Parsifal" and "Der Ring des Nibelungen", and created four tapestries for Hitler's Reich Chancellery, which depicted mythological motifs from the Icelandic Eddas.
Traces of a postmark; small flaw to upper margin. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
