Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.

Best known for his paintings of Venetian life and scenery as well as for his mythological themes, Tito depicted the inauguration of the San Marco bell tower after its reconstruction in a monumental painting of 1912. He taught at the Accademia di Belle Arti from 1894 to 1927, and, at the age of 70, was commissioned with a 400 square-metre painting for the vault of the Chiesa di Santa Maria di Nazareth in Venice.

Several small ink spots; some small creases near corners. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
