Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.

After studying at the Berlin Academy, Uth opened a studio for female students in 1897 and was a founding member of the Berlin Secession in 1899. His oeuvre mainly comprises landscapes featuring Northern German scenery.

Traces of a postmark; some small ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
