Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Ihrem Wunsche gemäß sende ich Ihnen meine Unterschrift. Bitte lassen Sie mir [!] doch wissen, wie Sie zu meiner Adresse gekommen sind [...]".

Having his studies interrupted by the Franco-Prussian War, Zschimmer first succeeded as an artist in 1872 when he received an award for his painting "Im Hochwalde". He was a drawing teacher in Weimar from 1875 and moved to Bad Schmiedeberg in 1891, where over the following years he created countless paintings of the Düben Heath.

Some small ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
