Regretting his being unable to inspect the "telegraphoscope" (a precursor of the fax machine) invented by Édouard Belin, but writing that he hopes to rectify the omission later: "Henri Becquerel [printed] regrette de n'avoir pas le temps au ce moment d'aller voir le telegraphoscope du Mons. Belin et espère pouvoir le faire lorsqu'il sera un peu plus libre".

Becquerel discovered radioactivity in 1896 and was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1903, together with Marie and Pierre Curie. The unit of radioactivity is named after him.
