Attractive miniature Book of Common Prayer decorated with a delicate fore-edge painting and bound in sumptuous full black calf. Anonymously prepared, the fore-edge painting depicts a view of Durham Cathedral and Prebends Bridge across the River Wear.

Both the front and the rear flyleaf are made of red moirée with gilt borders. Binding and pastedowns are lavishly gilt, featuring floral, geometrical and abstract ornaments, as well as an iron clasp embossed with oak leaves and acorns.

Extremities slightly rubbed. Second flyleaf detached, but present. Small bookplate of Estelle Doheny to flyleaf.
