Al-Ayyam Al-Jamila. "These Pleasant Days". For Aramco, A.O.C. and Tapline Annuitants.
4to. 40 pp. Original printed wrappers. Stapled.
Special issue of the retiree journal commemorating the Aramco, Tapline, and AOC annuitants' second annual get-together in Santa Barbara, California, on 22 September 1960. Enriched with numerous black-and-white photographic illustrations of the event. The articles, prepared by some of the annuitants themselves, evoke fond memories of their lives in the Middle East of the 1930s and 1940s, speaking of "glorious sunrises and sunsets", "golden days on the beach", and "the gracious charm of the Arabs who made it possible for some of us to share their pearl-diving and fishing expeditions; their trips on donkeys across the Bay to Tarut Island [...]; their weddings; their feasts; their unsurpassed generosity and hospitality".
Another article mentions the incredible abundance of fish in the Gulf: "One of the redeeming features of living in Arabia at that time was the fabulous fishing in the Persian Gulf [...] One day we caught 55 fish, all large, between us, which I believe was the record for any two fishermen when I left Arabia in May 1948".
