A superb commentary on Ibn Hajar's (1372-1449) famous work, "Nukhba al Fikr", which discusses and classifies hadith literature. Hadith collections are of particular importance across Muslim literature, as they provide a vital record of the sayings and actions of the Prophet Muhammad as passed down in what was originally an oral tradition. Ibn Hajar's Nukhba was a key text for understanding the hadith and the history of hadith scholarship, and gave rise to numerous commentaries, this being a particularly well-respected one.
The author of this commentary, Muhammad 'Abd al-Ra'uf al-Munawi (1545-1621 CE), was a hadith scholar, historian, and jurist in Ottoman Egypt. A prolific author and respected theologian and teacher, al-Munawi's commentary on Ibn Hajar's Nukhba is one of his best known works.
