A German engineer's private photographs of a construction project near Kabul, perhaps the planned city of Darulaman. King Amanullah Khan sought to turn Darulaman into a new modern capital city, and hired German companies and engineers to build roads, bridges and other infrastructure, as well as Darul Aman Palace. Images include an aerial view of Kabul, city views and street scenes of the capital, the construction site, views of the Hindukush, Afghan soldiers, the King's guards, chieftains and a garden banquet.

The engineer himself is depicted twice: mounted on horseback next to his two foremen Idris and Tjark, and crossing a lake standing aboard a rowboat.

Condition

Larger tear to spine, extremities somewhat rubbed and bumped. Interior very well preserved.
