First edition. A fine specimen of German hippologic literature on the Arabian horse. The frontispiece shows the Klein-Hohenheim stud, the plates depict the finest Arabian horses bred there. Contains chapters on Arabian horses and the history of horse breeding in Europe from the Middle Ages until the 19th century, as well as an extensive history of the Royal private stud in Württemberg. Founded by King Wilhelm I in 1817, the stud is still famous as the oldest breeding programme of Arabian horses outside Arabia.
In the original, prettily giltstamped binding.
Hinges cracked at head of spine; corners lightly bumped; front inner hinges starting. First flyleaf removed. Some stains and foxing to interior, with occasional underlinings in red pencil.
