An 18th century "locked" binding with the original lock and key

[Locked binding]. Lockable book-register, blank.

[Germany, about 1750].

Folio (210 x 332 mm). Ca. 300 ff. of blank paper. Contemporary blindstamped brown calf "wallet" binding with lock on the upper board and related key. Coloured edges.

 8,500.00

A curious book-register (once probably intended for use as a ledger) containing nearly 300 leaves of paper, never used. The binding features a perfectly working lock on the upper board, including its related key, so as to open and close the wallet wing (and therefore not to allow the consultation of the content, if sensible).

A very rare, fascinating and highly original item.
