Six original early 19th century watercolour paintings showing traditional peoples mostly of the northern and central Caucasus regions: Circassians (Cherkess or Adyghe), Nogais, Ingush, Tatars, Kalmyks, and Cossacks. All captioned in ink and signed by the unidentified artist "C.G.F.G.". The titles read: 1) A Circassian Princess in her domestic dress; 2) A lady of distinction among the Nagays, and a Princess of that nation attended by a female slave; 3) An Ingushian, a tribe inhabiting the Caucasus; 4) A Tartar woman; 5) A Kalmuk housewife, and girl in their national costume; 6) A girl of the Kozaks of Tsherkash.

Dispersed from a larger set, with contemporary numberings in lower right corner. All drawings are based on engravings in the "Travels Through the Southern Provinces of the Russian Empire, in the Years 1793 and 1794" by Peter Simon Pallas, first published in English in 1802. An attractive, well-preserved collection.
