To the academic painter and art critic Charles-Olivier Merson, announcing the completion of a painting for the Paris Salon and asking Merson to take a look at it: "Le tableau que je destine au Salon est terminé. Si il pouvait vous être agréable de venir le voir je serai chez moi le jeudi [...]".

If the painting mentioned in the letter is identical with the final Salon-piece it would be "Reflets de cuivre", one of Bail's typical genre paintings.
