Beautiful letter to a curator of the Exposition de Bordeaux, probably Charles-Olivier Merson, thankfully declining an invitation to participate in the Exposition de Bordeaux as he was participating in the Salon of the Société des pastellistes français and not allowed to show pastel paintings in other exhibitions: "Croyez, Monsieur, qu'il m'ait été fort agréable de vous confier quelque peinture pour l'Exposition de Bordeaux mais (le fameux mais) je viens d'être reçu aux Pastellistes et il m'est interdit d'exposer autre part.... si ce n'est de la peinture à l'huile et je n'ai rien de terminé en cette dernière matière.
Si vous voulez bien de moi l'année prochaine je ferai en sorte d'être en mesure, car ce que vous me dites m'allèche fort [...]".
