The Damascus-based scholar Abu'l-`Abbas Ahmad bin Yahyá bin Fadlallah al-`Omari (1301-49) is famous for his 27-volume encyclopedia of geography, history and biography, from which is taken this essay on the Christian occident as seen through the eyes of a medieval Muslim ("R. tastamil `ala kalam gumli fi amr masahir mamalik al-Fireng [...]").
