Rolland, Romain, French writer (1866-1944). Autograph letter signed.

Lucerne, 6. III. 1931.

8vo. ½ p. on bifolium. Together with a letter by Rolland's second wife Maria Cuvilier (fragment).

To an editor and friend, thanking him for good news: "Je reçois l'heureuse nouvelle que vous voulez bien me communiquer, et je vous en adresse mes compliments affectueux".

The typed letter by Maria Cuvilier points to the time after Rolland's death in 1944. In a postscript, she announces to send the recipient, probably the same editor, information on the Association des Amis de Romain Rolland, an association founded by Maria in 1945 that was dedicated to the publication of Romain's literary estate and correspondence, and asks whether they may copy letters that are in the possession of the recipient.

The letter by Rolland on stationery of the Carlton Hotel in Lucerne. Very slight tears and slightly toned.
