"With Mrs. Garricks re[gards]".
The Viennese-born Veigel, nicknamed "Violette" or "Violetti" by Empress Maria Theresa for the German origin of her surname, emigrated to London in 1746, speaking little English, where only a few years later she married the great actor, playwright and theatre manager David Garrick (1717-79). The couple enjoyed a childless but happy marriage.
