Rare first edition of this important statement by the Egyptian leader: an autobiographical survey of what led up to the Egyptian Revolution of 1952, and of hopes for the future. An unambiguous work of Pan-Arab propaganda soaked in idealism, calling for Arab unity and mobilisation against the corrupted regimes in Arab lands as well as the colonial powers, this work presents a unique window into a masterful mind that managed to emerge victorious from the revolutionary turmoil and succeeded in winning both battles, overthrowing an old regime and conquering the minds of the Egyptian people.

Nasser led the 1952 overthrow of the monarchy and introduced far-reaching land reforms the following year. After a 1954 attempt on his life by a Muslim Brotherhood member, he cracked down on the organisation, put President Mohamed Naguib under house arrest, and assumed executive office. He was formally elected president in June 1956. He was very popular after the Suez Canal crisis, and even his defeat in the Six-Day War did not seriously diminish his powers.

Only four copies in libraries worldwide (at Israeli universities, the British Library, and the University of California).
