An anonymous Persian work on astronomy, illustrated with numerous astronomical diagrams depicting the movement of the moon, the planets, and the zones of the Earth. The first leaf is prettily illuminated with a headpiece in blue and gilt, and the text covers many classical aspects of Muslim astronomical manuscript tradition. Included are lunar phases, information about the terrestrial zones such as the equator, and several long sections on mathematics, particularly the geometry of various three-dimensional shapes.
Light exterior wear, a few diagrams either purposely or accidentally smudged; well-preserved. Provenance: private London collection; previously ex Christies, formerly acquired on the UK and international art market 1970s-2020.
