Scientific paper by the leading geologist of the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company, George Martin Lees (1898-1955). An inscribed copy signed by the author: "With the Author's Compliments / G. M. Lees".

The paper studies the geological structure of oilfields in the Middle East, including the Burgan field in Kuwait and the Kirkuk field in Iraq, considering the latter a "striking example [of] unusual structural simplicity and regularity" (p. 26).

The illustrations include a geological map of oilfields in Iran, Iraq, and the Gulf region, a generalised table of strata showing correlation between mountain front and the Arabian foreland, and a digrammatic cross section of the Burgan oilfield.

Reprinted from the International Geological Congress, "Report of the Eighteenth Session, Great Britain, 1948", part VI.

Front cover has stamp of the Queen Mary College, Geological Department. Slightly creased; small rust spots near staples.
