A North African manuscript of this commentary on the most celebrated work of Moroccan Muslim jurisprudence, a work on Maliki fiqh called "al-Murshid al-mu'in" by Ibn Ashir (1582-1631 CE). The commentary was written by Ibn Ashir's own student, Muhammad Mayyara (1591-1662 CE). Mayyara, under Ibn Ashir's teaching, became one of the most renowned scholars of his own time, and his interpretation of this important work is particularly closely linked to the original, considering his presence in the Moroccan milieu and his relationship with Ibn Ashir.
Ibn Ashir's "al-Murshid al-mu'in" is an introduction to the main tenets of Islam and the Maliki interpretation of Muslim law. It is striking for its consistent popularity - it is still memorized and recited today - and for its concise distillation of the complex rules dictating the rules of fasting, Hajj, marriage, ritual purity, and more, designed for students of the faith.
Covers a touch worn; leaves trimmed, with marginal commentary carefully preserved; some toning from the ink. Altogether well-preserved.
