A document detailing a widowed woman's legal claims. The text comprises negotiations between Muhammad ibn Abdallah and Ibrahim ibn Ahmad, the latter being the representative of Khadija bint Muhammad, wife of the deceased Said ibn Adallah. The discussion centres around Khadija's right to some percentage of her dowry after the death of her husband. Notes in further hands add the the text: the first hand adds a note confirming the correctness of the above document. On the reverse, another writer certifies the correctness of the text on that side of the paper, yet another states that what is written should be set into practice, and finally a note on Khadija states that she has not requested to resign her rights. Altogether, a brief window into the everyday use of inheritance law in North Africa, and the role of women in the legal system.
