Interesting political letter from the aftermath of the Revolution of 1848 to Antoine Vincens, father of the journalist and music critic Charles Vincens, informing him that he would serve as deputy for the Bouches-du-Rhône department again should the electorate entrust him with this duty, even though he doesn't desire it: "Je vous remercie de l'intérêt que vous voulez bien témoigner à ma personne et à ma candidature, je vous prie d'agréer l'expression de ma gratitude. On avait mal interprété mon intention quand on avait dit que je refusais la mission de représenter le département des Bouches-du-Rhône dans la future assemblée nationale. Je ne désire pas cette mission, mais je l'accepterai avec dévouement aux intérêts du pays, si elle m'est déférée par la voix des électeurs. Il suffit qu'elle présente du danger, pour que je n'hésite pas à l'accepter." - Thiers did run for deputy of the Bouches-du-Rhône that he had previously represented in the first general election following the revolution on 23 April 1848 but lost. Later that year, Thiers was elected in four departments and decided to represent Seine-Inférieure.
