Only edition, one of 300 copies: a historical study of Royal Danish visits to Rome from the Middle Ages to recent times which includes, remarkably, the first general bibliography of Denmark. Always in need of patronage, the author dedicated his effort to Luigi Chiaveri (1783-1837), the Danish consul general in Rome. The scholar, writer and bibliophile Francesco Girolamo Cancellieri (1751-1826) was secretary to various Roman diplomats in Rome; from 1775 to 1811 he served as librarian to Cardinal Antonelli, Superintendent of the Propaganda printing press, and Deputy Sealer of Briefs for the Vatican.

Front hinge beginning to split, slight browning to engraved title, otherwise a fine copy. From the library of the Ducs de Luynes at the Château de Dampierre: their bookplate reproducing the arms of Charles Marie d'Albert de Luynes (1783-1839), 7th Duc de Luynes, on pastedown.
