Illustrations for the cavalcade celebrating the 850th anniversary of the arrival of a miraculous statue of the Virgin Mary on a boat in Hanswijk. The statue was transferred to Mechelen in 1273 and became the protector of the city, housed in the Basilica of Our Lady of Hanswijk. From 1738 onwards a grand procession was staged every twenty-five years. The illustrations show soldiers and women on horseback, floats including the kingdom of the saints and the famous giant figures.

Lithographed by Jos. Coomans after drawings by J. J. Vervloet (1790-1869, cf. Thieme/Becker XXXIV, 306). Slight browning and brownstaining; some loss to spine cover, otherwise in good condition.
