Lassalle's major economic work and his other writings from 1863, the year in which he initiated the ADAV (Allgemeiner Deutscher Arbeiterverein), the first socialist party in Germany. Includes several works on the proceedings before the Berlin Criminal Court where Lassalle was accused of having endangered the public peace. Lassalle argued that he had only brought science to the workers: "Socialism as a principle is the result of scientific thought. It is the working classes who represent this scientific principle, while the idle classes resist it".
