Very rare Zionist essay by the Israeli prime minister David Ben-Gurion (1886-1973) with reproduced signature of the author to final page.

The work retraces the history of the Jewish people in Europe since the 17th century, a "magnificent, richly creative chapter of European Jewry [that] ended with the Nazi horror", and describes the early days of the recently founded state of Israel as well as the challenges it faces, including struggles with the interpretation of Zionism.

Reprinted from the Government Yearbook 5714 from 1953/54.

Stamped "Legation" to front cover. Slightly toned. Very well preserved.
